Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world, it is located at 3856 meters above sea level. Its shores and small islands, such as Amantani and Taquile, are home of Aymaras and Quechuas people, who come from ancestral cultures and lived in this area long before they were dominated by the Incas. Here, the visitors can explore traditional villages, where Spanish is the second language and a lot of ancient myths and beliefs are still alive and endure even today.
One of the peculiarities of Titicaca Lake is its small floating islands inhabited by a tribe called Los Uros, where the visitors are very well received and they can even sail on one of the famous totora rafts.
Take a one-day tour from Puno and explore Uros and Taquile islands on Titicaca Lake. Spend time with the islands inhabitants and experience their culture. Visit a weavers' cooperative, observe their skills and enjoy having lunch in Taquile.
We will start our tour picking it up from your respective hotel and then we will move to the port of Lake Titicaca, where our local guide will be waiting for you with the boat to start our adventure in Lake Titicaca. Once we have left, our guide will explain important points of this great lake, and then we will arrive at the floating islands of Los Uros.
In the community of the Uros we will take a raft made of totora and walk a bit in the lake.
We will continue our journey to the Taquile Island, here you should walk slowly and take it easy, as you walk over the 3,800 meters high. Then we can rest and visit a small museum site. After lunch, visitors will have free time to visit the weaving workshops and take pictures with the islanders. Later we will descend to the pier and start our return trip to Puno, arriving to the city.
